It is said that the large nose inherent to Armenians is a sign of kindness. However, many believe they will still be kind with smaller noses. Especially Armenian women, who, in their desire to have a beautiful and flawless appearance, often turn to a plastic surgeon. Thus, they first end up in the plastic surgeon’s office and then in the operating room, where they get rid of the large and “kind” Armenian nose.
Of course, people consult plastic surgeons in Armenia for other reasons as well, but the vast majority still undergo rhinoplasty.
“Nose surgery in Armenia is taking on the nature of an epidemic. The number of operations performed is growing every day,” plastic surgeon Gevorg Yuryevich Yeghiazaryan tells “RA”. He notes that almost every day, and often several times a day, he performs plastic surgeries on the nose.
In second place is otoplasty—the correction of prominent ear shells—followed by minimally invasive injectable techniques: wrinkle correction and lip augmentation.
The surgeon notes that the motivation for rhinoplasty differs between men and women. While women come mainly for beauty, men primarily restore their breathing and only then think about their appearance.
“It is not possible to make the desired nose out of just any nose”
Describing the entire surgical process, the surgeon noted that all his patients undergo preoperative computer modeling to determine the most optimal nose shape that will harmonize with their facial features.
Rhinoplasty is performed only under general anesthesia
Anesthesia is carried out using new-generation drugs that cause minimal harm to health.
Performing rhinoplasty under local anesthesia has several disadvantages—the surgeon is limited in time and rushes to finish the operation before the anesthetic wears off, which does not always have a favorable effect on the subsequent result. In addition, when the anesthetic is injected, the nose tissues swell, and achieving the required contour becomes an arch-difficult task.
The duration of the operation averages 1-1.5 hours, but sometimes there are particularly complex cases when the operation lasts up to 7 hours. The anesthesiologist administers the first medication right in the hospital room, which relieves the patient of the stress of walking into the operating room on their own.
After the operation, a special fixing bandage made of thermoplastic is placed on the nose: pink for girls, blue for guys. Inside the nose, instead of scary, meter-long tampons, there are 8 cm special hemostatic sponges. These sponges do not stick to the mucous membrane and are removed practically painlessly within a few seconds. As a result, the patient leaves the dressing room with a smile on their face.
The thermoplastic cast remains on the nose for 2 weeks. According to Gevorg Yuryevich, long-term fixation allows for better results. The final result of the rhinoplasty can be evaluated one year after the operation.
To achieve the maximum result, it is necessary to protect the nose from any external influences. One year after the surgery, all restrictions are lifted.
In addition to conventional rhinoplasty, there is also non-surgical rhinoplasty, but it has very narrow indications. Not all noses can be corrected using this technique. Its essence lies in increasing the volume above and below a faint hump, as a result of which the bridge of the nose is leveled.
Rhinoplasty can be performed on girls from the age of 17, and on guys from 18. It is advisable to undergo nose surgery after completing military service.
In the presence of various concomitant chronic diseases, the operation is performed only after a full, comprehensive examination and only in the absence of contraindications.
Many foreigners, particularly from Russia, turn to the services of Armenian plastic surgeons.
Foreign citizens are, of course, mostly our compatriots from abroad, but there are also Russians, Ukrainians, and Belarusians. It turns out that they, too, often have “Armenian” noses or, conversely, they want to get rid of the “Slavic” nose desired by so many. They prefer to undergo surgery in Armenia, as the cost of the operation here is 2-4 times less. In addition, Armenian rhinoplasty surgeons are trusted due to their extensive experience in performing such operations.

According to psychologist Liliya Antaranyan, if the appearance of the nose is normal and there are no serious reasons, but a person wants to have an operation, then they have psychological problems. They do not want to accept and love themselves. In this case, even if this person undergoes surgery, they will not remain satisfied with their appearance. The reasons for this are solely psychological. On the other hand, if there is a real need for a plastic surgery, then after it, self-esteem increases and the quality of life improves. A person can achieve serious success, including in the business sphere.
